The U.S. chipmaking giant strengthens its role in India’s AI revolution as a founding member of the India Deep Tech Alliance.
Nvidia has taken a major step toward strengthening its footprint in India’s fast-growing artificial intelligence (AI) and deep tech ecosystem. The company has joined the India Deep Tech Alliance (IDTA) as a founding member, an ambitious $2 billion initiative aimed at mentoring and nurturing the next generation of deep tech startups in the country.
This strategic move marks Nvidia’s latest effort to empower India’s booming innovation landscape, which has quickly emerged as the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem. The alliance, backed by private equity and venture capital investors, will fund emerging companies across diverse sectors such as AI, semiconductors, robotics, space technology, biotech, and clean energy — all areas where India aims to become a global leader.
Empowering India’s Deep Tech Innovators
Through this partnership, Nvidia will leverage its world-class Deep Learning Institute (DLI) to provide technical mentorship, hands-on workshops, and training sessions to early-stage startups. The company’s focus will include AI system design, responsible deployment, developer enablement, and policy collaboration, helping Indian innovators build globally competitive technologies.
“Nvidia’s depth of expertise in AI systems, software, and ecosystem-building will benefit our network of investors and entrepreneurs,” said Sriram Viswanathan, founding executive council member of the IDTA. He emphasized that the alliance could help produce “a significant number of Indian deep tech companies of global repute” within the next five years.
According to Vishal Dhupar, Managing Director of Nvidia South Asia, the company’s goal is to “provide guidance on AI systems, developer enablement, and responsible deployment while collaborating with policymakers, investors, and entrepreneurs.”
While Nvidia has not disclosed specific investment figures or training targets, its participation underscores a strong commitment to India’s AI and innovation ecosystem.
A Boost to India’s AI Ambitions
The alliance aligns closely with the Indian government’s growing push to foster deep tech research and AI innovation. India recently launched its AI Mission, allocating over ₹100 billion ($1.1 billion) to advance artificial intelligence research and applications. Additionally, a ₹1 trillion ($11.2 billion) Research, Development and Innovation Scheme Fund has been established to support deep tech startups and foster academic collaboration.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also announced that India will host the Global AI Impact Summit in February 2026, which is expected to bring together global leaders such as Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Google DeepMind’s Demis Hassabis. The summit will showcase India’s growing influence in shaping the global AI agenda.
Growing Global Interest in India’s AI Ecosystem
Nvidia’s expanded involvement comes amid a surge of international interest in India’s AI potential. Global tech giants are ramping up their investments in the region: Google recently pledged $15 billion to establish an AI hub in Visakhapatnam, while OpenAI counts India as its second-largest user base worldwide.
As one of the most valuable companies in the world, Nvidia’s participation adds significant credibility and momentum to India’s deep tech sector. The company’s advanced GPU and AI infrastructure are already integral to powering large-scale AI models globally, and its mentorship could fast-track India’s journey toward becoming a global deep tech powerhouse.
Shaping the Future of AI in India
Nvidia’s collaboration with the India Deep Tech Alliance represents more than a funding initiative—it’s a strategic partnership to build capacity, capability, and confidence in India’s next generation of technology innovators. By combining world-class technical expertise with India’s talent-rich ecosystem, the alliance is set to play a key role in shaping the country’s future in artificial intelligence, semiconductor design, and advanced research.
As India positions itself at the forefront of the global AI revolution, Nvidia’s deepened engagement underscores a shared vision: to transform India from a hub of digital consumers to a powerhouse of AI creators and innovators.
