Mumbai – In a move that could reshape the global artificial intelligence (AI) landscape, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has announced the launch of its new AI-focused subsidiary, Reliance Intelligence, with Google and Meta stepping in as strategic partners. The collaboration signals a major leap in India’s ambition to position itself at the forefront of AI and superintelligence.
At the Reliance Annual General Meeting (AGM), RIL Chairman Mukesh Ambani unveiled the plan, outlining how Reliance Intelligence will focus on four critical areas: building gigawatt-scale AI-ready data centers in Jamnagar, forging partnerships with global technology leaders and open-source communities, deploying AI solutions across education, healthcare, agriculture, and small businesses, and attracting the world’s best AI talent to India.
Sundar Pichai Backs Reliance’s AI Transformation
Google CEO Sundar Pichai emphasized the transformative scope of the partnership.
“Google and Reliance are partnering to help all of Reliance’s businesses transform, using AI – from energy and retail to telecom and financial services. To support this AI adoption, together we are establishing a Jamnagar Cloud region, built for and dedicated to Reliance,” Pichai said.
The new Jamnagar Cloud Region, powered by Reliance’s clean energy and Jio’s advanced network, will serve as the technological backbone for Reliance’s AI ambitions. Pichai added that Google Cloud will not only power Reliance’s mission-critical workloads but also collaborate on advanced AI initiatives that can scale across India.
Zuckerberg’s Vision: Democratizing Superintelligence
Mark Zuckerberg, Chairman and CEO of Meta, struck an ambitious tone as he spoke about Meta’s joint venture with Reliance to build sovereign, enterprise-ready AI platforms for Indian companies and government institutions. The venture will combine Reliance’s scale across industries with Meta’s open-source Llama AI models.
“With Llama, we have seen how AI can amplify human potential, boosting productivity, inspiring creativity, and accelerating innovation. And now, with Reliance’s reach and scale, we can bring this to every corner of India,” Zuckerberg said.
He further highlighted the long-term goal of the collaboration: “We are seeing glimpses of our AI systems starting to improve themselves. It seems clear that superintelligence is going to greatly improve all of our existing systems and let us build things that we can’t even imagine today. This partnership is just the beginning.”
Mukesh Ambani: “AI Everywhere for Every Indian”
Ambani positioned Reliance Intelligence as the natural successor to Jio’s digital revolution.
“Jio delivered digital everywhere for every Indian. Reliance Intelligence will deliver AI everywhere for every Indian,” he declared.
He underlined that pairing Reliance’s execution across energy, telecom, media, retail, and manufacturing with Meta’s open models would deliver sovereign, enterprise-ready AI for India, ensuring that businesses from startups in small towns to large corporations in metro cities can benefit.
A Strategic Shift Beyond Oil and Chemicals
This bold leap into AI further cements Reliance’s transformation from an oil-to-chemicals giant into a diversified technology and new-age powerhouse. Over the past decade, Reliance has already built Jio into India’s largest telecom operator, expanded Reliance Retail into a global retail force, and committed billions into clean energy giga factories.
With the birth of Reliance Intelligence, Ambani is betting big on AI as the next defining pillar of India’s economic growth.
Why This Matters
The Reliance–Google–Meta alliance is more than a business deal; it represents a geopolitical and technological milestone. As India and the U.S. navigate trade disputes, this partnership underscores a shared vision of AI-driven growth. By bringing together Reliance’s scale, Google’s cloud infrastructure, and Meta’s open-source AI leadership, the venture could accelerate India’s path to becoming a global AI hub.
Industry experts believe that Reliance Intelligence could play a role similar to Jio’s telecom revolution—democratizing access, lowering costs, and empowering millions. And with superintelligence already on the horizon, the collaboration sets the stage for a future where AI doesn’t just power businesses but redefines how societies innovate and grow.
