Meta, the tech titan behind Facebook and Instagram, has announced a staggering investment plan to fuel its next big bet—superintelligence. According to founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the company is preparing to pour hundreds of billions of dollars into the construction of massive, next-generation AI data centers across the United States.

In a bold move that redefines ambition in the AI race, Meta revealed that its upcoming AI facilities—Prometheus in New Albany, Ohio, and Hyperion in Louisiana—will house multi-gigawatt computing clusters, with some sprawling across areas as large as Manhattan. Hyperion alone could scale up to five gigawatts over time, making it one of the largest AI computing infrastructures on Earth.

“We’re building multiple titan clusters. Just one of these covers a significant part of the footprint of Manhattan,” Zuckerberg stated in a post on Threads.

The Prometheus centers are set to go live in 2026, while Hyperion is expected to be fully operational by 2030. These facilities will serve as the foundation for Meta’s ambitious goal of developing “superintelligence”—AI capable of surpassing the cognitive abilities of even the smartest humans.

Zuckerberg emphasized that the sheer size and scale of these projects warranted powerful, mythological names, reflecting both the technological and cultural impact they aim to have.

Despite these concerns, Meta continues to move full steam ahead, joining the global cloud race where more than 10,000 data centers already exist—primarily concentrated in the U.S., UK, and Germany.
